In an age where individuals and families are impacted by technology, mobility, and a driving urge to be successful – there often arises an inner disturbance, a dissatisfaction from within which refuses to be appeased by our attempts to go on with “business as usual”.
Today, more than ever before, modern technology has enabled people to become quite mobile. With various modes of affordable transportation at our fingertips – our society has engineered a personal and professional lifestyle which keeps us on the go.
Now, understand that it’s neither our mobility, nor technology that’s the focus of our concern. It is, rather, the lifestyle of society which converts “busy-ness” into “business” – and expects everyone to participate.
Such busy-ness usually becomes self-centered and competitive in nature with a “win/lose” philosophy that is generally executed at the expense of someone else.
Unfortunately, in many instances, this behavior is praised and rewarded as something worthy of emulation. But, in truth, it is far from being a life of quality.
The “quality” of one’s life cannot be determined by the “quantity” of things which fill it, and preoccupies its every waking hour – nor can it be defined by the body-count of individuals who have been used as a platform to achieving one’s goals. This course of action only leads to fatigue, burn-out, unhappiness, and dissatisfaction.
A happy and fulfilling life can, however, be gauged by a loving relationship with yourself, your surroundings and an energetic connection to the universe.
There Is A Growing Search For Meaning
All around us, people are beginning to to take notice that things have gone awry – acknowledging that something is not quite right in their lives, and are exploring various methods for a remedy to the emptiness and dissatisfaction.
This search for meaning and inner contentment, we refer to as a quest for nexus – an intentional journey to find and connect with the “fountain”, or the source of life-giving energy.
The quest for nexus can take many forms and encompass countless disciplines from outer orthodoxy to inner contemplation, and from vigorous re-creation to quiet meditation. There is no one size fits all or “one standard way” to find and achieve connection. What works for one person, may not work for another. Each person is different and must find their own fountain and source which brings true happiness.
Take a moment. Ask yourself these questions:
- When was the last time that you were “truly” happy?
- How long ago was it that your spirit danced within you, and you felt free and unburdened by the cares of this life?
- Do you remember when you first suspected that something wasn’t right with the way in which you were living?
- Do you recall the beginning of an inner emptiness?
- How did you respond to this crisis?
- What action did you take?
Often when we try to “jump start” our happiness in a material way, the dissatisfaction becomes worse and spills over into social and professional relationships. This inner disturbance may have several root causes, but usually it is the result of one being “out of sync” with the heartbeat of life – and nothing short of an authentic energetic realignment will restore the vitality that we seek.
The Answer Lies Within
Generally, what we are looking for can be found in our ability to draw away from the maddening pace of busy-ness and just “quiet ourselves” . Do not be surprised to learn that the heart and spirit know what is needed for our renewal, and that if we just take the time to listen to and comply with that inner voice which whispers within us – we could offset the source of the many maladies which plague us.
Listening to the voice within enables you to see with a new insight, with a wisdom and knowledge which points beyond yourself – to help you understand the nature and origin of who and what you really are, as well as, your relationship and your responsibility to others and your surroundings.
Through this wisdom, you will learn that you are essentially “energy”. Yes, you are “energy, as is the entire world around you. We are all but a drop of the cosmic fountain – and although we are not the fountain, we possess its attributes in every way.
You will also discover that in order to perform at optimum levels, that a consistent energy flow is required – therefore, any lifestyle or discipline that blocks or hinders this energy flow is a detriment to your personal growth, your health, and your well-being.
Remember that this article only serves as a catalyst for your development. If it only causes you to think and question your present lifestyle – then it has achieved its purpose.
In a literary piece entitled Zen O’Clock, author Scott Shaw writes:
Live all of life as a new experience and you will be free.
Free from worry. Free from expectation.
Free from previously gained understandings.
Free from earlier experiences that hold you bound to the positive or negative aspects of other people or external events.
Let everything in life be new.
Please Note: The above is graphic is a picture of a labyrinth. “A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. It represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. A labyrinth is an archetype with which we can have a direct experience. Walking the labyrinth can be considered an initiation in which one awakens the knowledge encoded within their DNA”. – Crystalinks
