Miami has a very vibrant and eclectic life coaching community, with coaches representing a wide variety of coaching backgrounds and expertise. A number of well known coaches hail from Florida, or find a home for their practice here. For the purpose of this article, I have chosen to talk about two very established Miami coaches – so much so they have achieved a sort of ‘celebrity’ status in the coaching community.
Perhaps Miami’s best known coach is Robert Mack (MAPP), owner of his own coaching company, Happiness from the Inside Out. Rob’s focus is teaching people how to live happier, healthier and wealthier lives from the ‘inside out’.
Rob has a Masters degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, studying under positive psychology pioneer Dr. Martin Seligman. From a true positive psychology perspective, he works under the premise that most people don’t need therapy, they just need a little clarity. His approach is action oriented; during and in between coaching sessions, clients are expected to achieve a number of exercises, classes and activities. Rob offers his coaching sessions in-person, over the phone and via skype/i-chat.
In addition to coaching, Rob is also a highly sought after speaker and media personality, charging fees in the range from $2000-$10,000 based on the nature of the nature of the event, travel expenses and time commitment – a true representation of the level of his success.
Rob is the best-selling author of his Oprah Winfrey endorsed book, Happiness from the Inside Out – The Art and Science of Fulfillment’ (the foreword of this book is written by actress Vanessa Williams, former client of Rob’s). The book presents 8 simple ways to achieving and maintaining a happy, fulfilled life, focusing on attitude and its effect on how we see the world and the decisions we make. A New Jersey radio show host whose show Rob was once a guest speaks of the book, ‘You can be happy, you can be sad. It’s the same effort. May as well go with being happy and this book is just the tool to teach you how’. In addition to presenting 8 steps to achieving happiness, the book also provides examples as well as exercise to practice every day.
He also partners with the Miami Life Centre, one of the nation’s top 25 health and wellness centres and has been a featured writer for such publications as ‘O’, Cosmopolitan and Self magazines.
On a personal note: Two years ago, my wife (Tonya K. Freeman) had the opportunity to interview Robert Mack on her weekly podcast Tonya and Friends. This interview appears below:
